On August 14, 2021, a 7.2 earthquake struck Haiti, and our Earthquake Relief effort started

On Saturday August 14th, 2021, a 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck Haiti’s Southern Peninsula. The situation in the south remains critical. There are more than 2,200 dead and 12,000 injured, and more than 60,000 families whose homes have been destroyed.

Because of our close working relationship for the last 10 years with the people of Ile-a-Vache, we were able to immediately partner with our local volunteers to ensure the collected aid would be effectively distributed.

In Ile-a-Vache, 276 homes have been damaged; it has been hard for the people as they also recently suffered from tropical storm Elsa.

Flying High 4 Haiti’s founder Ines Lozano, travelled to Haiti to assess the situation and identify the most urgent needs

After traveling to Haiti delivering medical supplies to Les Cayes hospital, visiting some of the most affected areas including destroyed churches, and schools and meeting with the mayor of St. Louis du Sud, Luc Edwin Ceide, and the mayor of Ile-a-Vache, Amazan Jean-Yves, we identified the most urgent needs and developed a plan for help.

The primary efforts FH4H will be focusing on are:

  • Provide water filters. Flying High 4 Haiti is delivering water filters to Haiti and training the community about their proper use. Read more about our partnership with Sawyer International to provide water filters to the community
  • Provide large tents for 750 students at Saint Michel de Charpentier school, destroyed by the earthquake. These tents are an excellent temporary solution so students can begin classes and have some normalcy in their life
  • Help the community of Ile-a-Vache in the repairing of homes using local materials.

The gratefulness and resilient spirit of the people of Haiti motivate us to continue on this mission
