Flying High for Haiti – Exhibition

OPENING RECEPTION: September 8th 2012 7:00PM – 10:00PM

In March 2012, the principal of ICS, Ines Lozano, photographer Boris Imajo, and a group of volunteers traveled to Ile-a-Vache, Haiti to conduct a photography project with Haitian children. The students of L’Ecole Du Village received an introduction to photography and were given disposable cameras so they could portray their community to the outside world.

Ile-a-Vache, is a small and peaceful island off the south coast of Haiti, far removed from the bustling slums of the capital, Port-au-Prince. Their island is a largely unspoiled paradise, where they live in poverty, virtually oblivious to the outside world, with no roads, or cars or TVs. In order to preserve this unique and beautiful community the island is on a quest for sustainable development, to create jobs for the younger generation and environmental awareness through education.

L’Ecole du Village is an elementary school welcoming children to get them ready for basic reading, writing and math. L’Ecole du Village ensures a place for the children who are under privileged in the small community of Canobert. Some children even at the tender age of 4 have to walk over an hour to get to school. But this does not discourage the kids from waking up every morning looking for a place to learn. Thanks to the funds raised at International Christian School four classes have been built in the past year.
